Case Description

Inclined shafts are a common method of mine development. In inclined shaft hoisting systems, two primary configurations are used depending on the type of conveyance: skip hoisting and tramcar (or mine car) hoisting. These two systems serve different roles and are suited to different mining conditions.

Skip hoisting in inclined shafts is typically used as the main shaft hoisting system, dedicated to the high-capacity, continuous transport of ore or coal. Skip hoisting offers advantages such as high hoisting capacity, ease of automation, and enhanced safety. It is suitable for inclined shafts with large hoisting volumes and long service lives. Skip hoisting is generally applied to shafts with inclinations between 25° and 30°. Skips are categorized by their unloading method into rear-dump and tilting types.

Tramcar hoisting generally serves as the auxiliary shaft hoisting system, primarily used for raising and lowering personnel, hoisting waste rock, and transporting materials and equipment. The main advantages of tramcar hoisting include lower capital investment, faster commissioning, and the ability to be built in stages and serve multiple levels. It is generally suitable for shafts with inclinations of less than 25°. Its disadvantages include higher resistance, lower safety reliability, and lower overall hoisting capacity.

For smaller mines with lower production capacity, tramcar hoisting can also serve as the main shaft hoisting system. A single shaft may be equipped for single-rope tramcar hoisting to transport coal. Alternatively, two shafts may be used, with double-rope tramcar hoisting for the main shaft and single-rope tramcar hoisting for the auxiliary shaft.

Each system has its own specific conditions of application. The choice between skip and tramcar hoisting should be made based on a comprehensive evaluation of mine scale, shaft inclination, investment budget, and other relevant factors to determine the most suitable hoisting solution.
